Embezzlement of Funds
In-situ Installations & Personal Exhibition

The Banque de France, victim of an Embezzlement of Funds
Georges Rousse has invested the facilities of the former Banque de France's abandoned building in order to create two in-situ works, modifying the existing architecture and to expose a selection of recent and previous works. Commissioned by Lens' city council to take over this site, he shifted it from its primary use to transform it in a true exhibition space.
The exhibition, named Embezzlement of Funds, refers to both the diversion of use and to the diversion of the look with which the artist likes to play with in its installations. But it is also through his first installation, in which the walls have been covered with newspapers from which all of the images have been masked with black paint, a manner of deviating the reflexion about media and the role of photography and its impact in a world where image is omnipresent.
